I hate waste.
Yes, I realize “hate” is a strong word and I’m using it appropriately.
Waste is a terrible thing. You can never get it back. It is unnecessary and preventable.
This post is primarily about squeezing all the product you have out of its container. It’s amazing how much longer you can keep using a product if you really try.
For example, I have this lovely bottle of Earth Science almond-aloe moisturizer. A few weeks ago, I thought I had squeezed everything I could from the bottle and was contemplating buying a new moisturizer. However, since I like it so much (and it’s not cheap!), I decided to turn the bottle upside down, unscrew the top before each use, and extract a little bit of lotion with my finger. I’m still using it!
To think that I almost threw out several weeks worth of product…
I am an avid subscriber to the “turn it upside down” principle. It works with a lot of stuff:
- Shampoo & Conditioner
- Lotion
- Toothpaste (OK, I don’t use my finger to get the last out here…)
- Yoghurt
- Detergent
Yes, it takes a little bit of extra effort each day. But think about the bucks you’ll be able to save and how much less product will be sent down the drain when you rinse your bottle for recycling. It’s worth it!
