Spring is a great time to do a cleanse. You’re already cleansing other parts of your world (think spring cleaning) and the world is renewing itself. It’s also not too cold or too hot. The energy is just right.
Hense, I am preparing to embark on the cleanse described in the book, If the Buddha Came to Dinner. I did a much abbreviated version of this cleanse in the fall of 2010. It was rejuvenating.
This time, I’m ready to try it for a longer period of time. Initially, I was thinking I would go for the full 3 weeks. However, based on my current work load and extracurricular activities, I’m thinking 9 days may be a good next level.
I had hoped to start today, but I didn’t do a very good job preparing for my cleanse last week. So the new goal is to start on Saturday.
I’m thinking about my preparation for the cleanse in three categories:
Clear Physical Space
I did get a good start on this with the creation of my meditation room last week. It’s a good feeling that this room is ready for me to exercise the inward-looking aspect of my cleanse.
Further, I’d like to clean out my physical inbox prior to starting the cleanse. I love the feeling of an empty inbox and it removes some level of stress.
Organize Virtual World
I do a lot of things online. During my cleanse, I’d like to spend as little time as possible doing online “chores.” Therefore, I’ve planned the following activities for my pre-cleanse phase:
- Back-up computer
- Get mint.com up to date
- Update blog with new focus (done!)
- Clean out email inbox(es) – I know, it won’t stay like that, but it seems like a good idea to start out that way.
Prepare My Body
This is where I failed majorly last week. It’s important to get your body ready for the cleanse. In my case, this means avoiding the following:
- Alcohol
- Processed food
- Animal products
I’ve had a few slipups already (I had to finish the rest of the black jelly beans, the remaining boiled egg, and the Swedish waffles with whip cream). Other than that, it’s all good. (And now that the temptations are gone – i.e. being processed in my body – it will be much easier!)
I’ve also made an appointment with my acupuncturist friend to help with the transportation of toxins out of my body. I’ve never had acupuncture before, so I’m pretty excited!
Let me know if you have any other pre-cleanse ideas. I’m all ears!
