As you know, I’m a big fan of swapping stuff. Especially books. When I find a new book I want to read, I first check to see if it is available at the local library. However, if it’s not, then it gets added to my “Want” list on swap.com. I also keep adding books & movies to my “Have” list to increase my chances of getting a book that I want to read.
So far, I’ve made 20 trades, saved $166, and decreased my carbon footprint by 126 lbs. (I’m a fan of statistics…)
Today, I received an email from swap.com that read: Schools need what you have! This was the first I’d heard of swap.com’s new feature called Swap4Schools. Basically, teachers can enter specific books that they want and swap.com users can choose to donate that book.
What an awesome idea!!!
So I will be donating Uglies by Scott Westerfeld to an elementary school in Missouri. And now that I know that teachers are looking for books, I’ll be adding children’s books to my “Have” list as well. I have a whole box waiting to be reviewed. I’m thinking there is some potential there!
Now if there was just a swap for Kindle books… :)
If you like what you read, please share it with your friends.
Thank you for swapping @ Swap.com. We love swapping too and we are working to help people swap more efficiently with our site and tools. We are also pleased to combine our platform and community to serve a big need in our society… helping education and children. It is a very worthy cause. Already schools in over 30 states have signed up for Swap4Schools. Together we ca really make an impact on getting books into the hands of children that otherwise would not happen due to budget cuts. Thanks for posting about your experience on Swap and Swap4Schools. Swap on!!!
Thanks for making it happen!!
Hi Tabita,
Loved reading your post about swap4schools. We’re still looking to keep momentum high for the program and we’re wondering if you could ask you for a testimonial for your experience! If you haven’t been to our Swap’s facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/swapcom, we’re going to be sharing stories from teachers and donators who have participated in the program. There’s so many great stories to share and we’d love to add yours too, with your permission. Let me know if this sounds fun to you and I’d be happy to share more info if you like!
I am a teacher and just started an account a few weeks ago and have already received a few books which is awesome! I just wanted to say thanks for donating and was wondering if you or anyone else knows as a teacher is there a way to generate more traffic to my school account to receive more donations? Also, how would I go about thanking those individuals for donating? I haven’t found an email address or link on the website…
Hi, I’m not sure about how to drive traffic to your school account. I imagine that you could post the link on FB, Twitter and such. I’ve received thank you post cards, which is quite nice. You can get the address off the package. Glad you’re benefiting from it!
