Here in Decorah, Earth Day is an all-weekend affair. The celebration started just a few minutes ago with the Co-op Earth Day Celebration at the Oneota Community Co-op. There will be live music and locally-produced hamburgers, hotdogs, and more! I’ll be heading down there as soon as I finish this blog post, practice a little guitar, and have a bit to eat (still cleansing!).
All through the weekend, I will attempt to be even more mindful than usual about my actions and how they impact the environment. Some good choices include:
- Biking or walking over driving
- Buying bulk to minimize packaging
- Turning off and unplugging computers, lights, and other electronics
- Choosing to reuse over buying new
- Eating more veggies and less meat
- Buying locally-produced food
The Earth Day weekend will culminate with an Earth Day concert in which I’m participating. I’m singing a lovely Swedish song, called “Gabriellas sång,” with a group of wonderful singers and musicians. I’m really looking forward to it!
Before I start my Earth Day weekend, I just thought I’d share these fun “techno tats” with you (a gift from a good friend). I’m saving them for when I get my next cellphone. I’m thinking it will be soon. And I’m thinking I’ll have it for a really long time.
How are you celebrating Earth Day?
