As you may or may not know, I am part of a wonderful little company called Web Gnomes. We are an Internet marketing business specializing in the area of SEO and Local search marketing.
Today, we had our ribbon cutting with the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce (since I work from home…). It was a quick little ceremony consisting of a newspaper photo shoot with the Chamber Ambassadors, a swift snip, snip with the giant scissors, a brief 5-minute overview of our services, and general hand-shaking and business card exchanging.
In the midst of the hand-shaking, I noticed a gnome sitting on the front desk counter. When I looked closer, I saw it had a sign hanging around its neck. It said “There’s no place like Web Gnomes! Best Wishes Tabita! Your friends at Fidelity Bank”
There was absolutely no need for Fidelity Bank to take the time to buy this wonderful wooden gnome, design the amazing sign, print it, cut it out, glue it onto sturdy craft paper (matching our brand color, mind you), curl the string, and tie the sign around the neck of this gnome.
But they did! Just for us.
This kind gesture made me smile and feel so special. It also made me think about how I so seldom personally take the time to create something really special for others. I certainly go above and beyond in my work (both paid and volunteer), and I don’t publish online content that is sub-par, but this is a little different.
This is taking time to think creatively of something that would please someone else and not necessarily benefit you in any way. It’s the generously creative and kind version of going above and beyond.
Great reminder that small, but thoughtful gestures can be really meaningful to somebody else. And worth the extra time.
Thanks Fidelity Bank!
