We haven’t taken enough field trips lately, so today we decided to go to Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin. It was my daughter’s suggestion and it was a good one!
We experienced everything from lying on a bed of nails, to having our hair stand on end from electric current, to a tour of the solar system in 3-D.
However, what made me most excited (although the Les Paul exhibit was a close second…) was the “Energy and Ingenuity” exhibit. Here we learned all about how to save energy and how to create clean energy. For example, I learned that driving 60 mph is the optimal speed for most cars on the highway. Driving faster than that uses up *a lot* of extra energy.
I love that organizations like Discovery World is taking the initiative to teach the new generation about clean energy and energy conservation. Because… if it’s ingrained from an early age, it’s just second nature.
How great would it be if the new generation would view clean energy as the norm, rather than a science project!?!
Like what you read? Pass on the goodness!
Gosh, I love the walkable neighbourhood concept. A few years ago my parents had a brand new house built in a brand new estate. What blew me away (and not in a good way) was that there were regulations that no businesses could operate within the estate, ensuring then that all residents would need to drive since the estate was too big to realistically walk the length of it every time you needed a carton of milk. It stuns me that in this day and age, when we know what we know about the environment, that businesses are still turning their back on environmentally friendly solutions.
Ok, rant is over.
It’s sad that we as a society keep making the same mistakes of building big developments without any thought to how the people living there will buy groceries, go to the doctor, and visit the library. I am fortunate to currently be able to walk to grocery store, library, post office, dentist, doctor, and even my eye doctor! Whenever we move from this “temporary” location, I want to maintain the same. It just makes sense!
I live just outside Milwaukee….lol….but yet have never been to Discovery World (in all fairness I’ve only lived here for 3 years – I’m a Pennsylvania transplant).
It’s definitely worth a visit – especially with kids. And the Les Paul exhibit is pretty amazing, if you’re into music.
