For the last five days, I’ve been either packing, moving, or unpacking (aside from sleeping, eating & running).
Our awesome moving helpers in WI managed to stuff *almost* all of our belongings into a UHAUL truck (the remaining furniture was donated to happy recipients – I love how somebody’s “trash” can become somebody else’s treasure). We made it to our new home in IA without hardly any damage (a first!). On the IA end, our efficient movers were able to unload the truck in two hours. I was amazed!
Anyway, we’re not done yet, but I thought I’d post a few sneak peek photos of our home. Above is the dining room with a big, blank wall where our recent family portrait will go. The hutch is handy for storing the china we inherited from my husband’s parents as well as the Christmas china which was bestowed upon us by a generous parishioner when we lived in TX.
The original paint in the bedrooms was, let’s say, “interesting,” so we decided to hire a painter to help us fix them up. We totally lucked out with a lady from the neighboring town of Mabel, MN. She painted our bedroom in a lovely borscht from Sherwin-Williams. I wasn’t sure about the dark color, but now that the deed is done, I totally love it!
A nook by the stairs to the basement turned into a “music nook” (gotta have one of those!). In time, I’d like to replace the electric piano with a baby grand (I’ve already reserved the space in the living room), but that will have to wait for a while.
Now the big thing is furnishing my office. We’re headed to IKEA in the Twin Cities this weekend to hopefully accomplish the same. I’m going for a minimalist look, but with some shelving to accommodate my books. I’ll post some pics when it’s all put together. Back to work!
